Vape CDI Ignition-12v/150W
Formally Powerdynamo/MZB
Magnet based generator with integrated ignition. Output at 12V/150W DC. Solid state ignition with own power supply from within the system. Replaces old dynamo, regulator and ignition coils. No changes on engine casing needed. The system is technically capable of running without battery when using a Battery Eliminator.
Rotor Keyway Service
The Vape ignition comes without a key-way and relies on lock tight and the bolt to prevent slipping. we have had the rotors slip and throw off the timing so we built some tooling to install a key-way to take care of the problem. Available for the Yamaha RD only

Advantages over old systems

NOTES:
1. Yamaha RD400 The side cover may interfere with the pick up. there is a reinforcement web inside the cover that will need to be milled down to clear to allow the cover to fit flush.
2. Rotor Keyway Service. offered by HVCcycle only. This sets the timing at 2 mm BTDC +/- .2 mm this will prevent the rotor from slipping on the crank shaft.
3. To remove the original Yamaha rotor use this puller bolt. LINK
4. To remove the Vape rotor use this puller. LINK
5. Coil mount brackets. this is a good way to mount the Vape coil to the Frame center backbone. LINK
6. When using a battery eliminator. wire it up as if it was the battery.
7. when starting the bike, make sure the lights are off and the turn signal switch is not selected on.

Purchased twice… keyway is worth the extra money
Purchased 2 kits; 1 for my RD400 and 1 for a RD350 I am frame up restoring. Both times I bought the optional keyway service. Well worth the money and every component is high quality.

Don't wait!
If you are on the fence about switching from stock points to a full electronic ignition, stop wasting your time! This will be the single best purchase you can make for your bike. The key way service is a must, it made the install basically fool proof. My Daytona Special has never been this spunky.

High quality upgrade
I've been wanting this ignition for awhile, and finally pulled the trigger. Really wish I got it sooner. The install was pretty easy, had to do a little fabrication with mounting the ignition coil, but well worth it. Super strong spark, and the bike runs noticeably more crisp. Battery charges at 14 volts. I also paid extra extra for the keyway service because it seems silly to me to have a keyed crank but not a rotor, in my opinion. A+ product.

Electronic ignition
Very well put together kit that is easy to install. This kit worked so good on my ds7 I bought another for my rd350.

CDI swap.
Installation went smoothly & only required some removal of material from outer cover to make clearance for the new system. Overall very satisfied. No more anemic ignition system (points & condenser) & charging system. Starts on the second kick & charges 14 v consistently. Additional thanks to Brad for his helpful customer service.

CDI Ignition
I'm still in the middle of my rebuilds I haven't tried it out yet. However, fast shipping even during Christmas time. I fitted the ignition in my DS7 and it fit well. I did have to remove some material inside of the cover, more than1/8 inch to make room for the corner of the pickup coil. It was easy use a dremel tool or similar, don't be afraid not a big deal. Now it does not touch the inside of the cover and I have plenty of room to set the gap at .5mm. If it works as well as I believe it will, this investment will be worth every penny not having to deal with obsolete and hard to find ignition parts. I will update this spring when I'm up and running. Cheers!

very good street ignition
Good spark, can open plug gap and lights are much brighter than stock.

Great system and great support from HVC!
After some setup issues (mostly my fault) The system works great and the bike never ran better. The guys at HVC offered great support on the phone.
