Product Description
HVCcycle has been battling the problem of modifying the side stands on the RDs when aftermarket pipes are installed. Since we now sell our own line of exhaust systems, we did not want to leave our customers scratching their heads trying to figure out a way to allow the side stand to fit with expansion chambers. So we sat down and came up with a solution that will be easy to install, maintain our high quality standards, and most importantly WORK.
Our kit accomplishes two things. It allows the stock side stand to be used with aftermarket exhaust and it takes out that terrible lean angle of the bike when it is resting on the side stand.
This kit will work with any after market exhaust using your existing side stand on the following motorcycles:
- Yamaha DS7/R5
- Yamaha RD250/RD350
- Yamaha RD400
- Yamaha RD400F
Kit includes:
- Our steel bracket that has black oxide coating to prevent rusting
- A longer spring that is designed and manufactured just for this kit
- Hardware and a drill bit
Installation of the side stand kit will require the basic hand tools, a drill and either a pair of vice grips or a spring installation tool (recommended).
Customer Review
I wanted to let you know that I just installed your kickstand relocation kit on my 1978 Yamaha RD 400.
It is perfect!
I have expansion chambers that I installed years ago. The kickstand has always rubbed and hung low. Now the kickstand folds perfectly and misses the chambers by less than 1/2 an inch. It looks like a factory job. I can't wait to take a fast sweeper to the left and NOT have the kickstand drag the ground.
Thanks!

Easy installation
Better than it was... Unfortunately the kickstand mount on my RD350 had been broken and re-welded at some point. That apparently is pretty common as the crossmember is thin. It was not done that well and spoiled the alignment somewhat. The kickstand still hits my FPP chambers. No fault of the kit. Fortunately the spring keeps it folded so it isn't dangling like it was before.

Good solution
The product installed very easily as advertised . I thought it was a bit pricey but that's vintage bikes in general so it's all good. I think that overall the kit was worth the money.

Should have bought one a long time ago.
After much frustrations trying to heat and bend kick stands to clear exhaust and have the bike look like it was going to fall over when down, I bit the bullet and purchased this relocate bracket from HVC. $75.00, plus freight, but I think worth it. Easy install and adjustable.

nice Quality
Was hesitant because of the price. When I received the item I relized why. It is of nice quality and took a little research and development.

Easy solution and worth every penny...
I've been heating up and bending side-stands for years on various '70 Yamaha and Kawasaki 2-strokes that have expansion chambers. It was always a pain in the ass and the lean angle when the bike was on the side stand was crazy (I always carried a block of wood with me). This relocation bracket was very easy to install, I didn't have to modify the angle of the side stand, you can modify the distance of the side stand to the pipes by grinding off some of the material and best of all...the lean angle of the bike when the side stand is down is PERFECT. I also, used a 3"-4" piece of narrow radiator hose and safety wired it to the end of the side stand - after grinding away enough material on the bracket so that the end of it was 1/2" away from my pipes - just a little extra protection. I wish I could upload a couple of pics to illustrate this.
